Welcome to Island Bookstore, located on the beautiful northern Outer Banks of North Carolina. We are a full-service Independent general bookstore with books on all subjects including local interest, fiction, travel, cooking, history, poetry, sports, crafts, and humor.
A Little bit about us...
Nestled along the shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Island Bookstore has been a beloved literary haven for locals and visitors alike for over 29 years. What began as a small, independent shop has grown into a cherished destination for book lovers, with three locations in the Historic Corolla Village, Scarborough Faire Shops in Duck, and Kitty Hawk at Mile Post 4.5. Our passion for stories and community remains at the heart of everything we do.

Each store features a thoughtfully curated children’s section, designed to captivate young readers and foster a lifelong love of books. During the summer, we host author signings across various genres, offering readers unique opportunities to connect with writers and discover new treasures—perfect for beach reading or sharing with book clubs. And if you don’t see the title you’re looking for, we’re happy to order it, with most books arriving within just a few days.

Island Bookstore Duck
As our first location, opened over 25 years ago, Duck is the largest of the Island Bookstore locations. During the Summer season, our Duck store hosts Author Signing series in conjunction with other Scarborough Faire events. Open 363 days a year, Island Bookstore-Duck offers our deepest selection of titles, a splendid way to while away your day!

You can find our store in the Scarborough Faire Shops in the main shopping district of Duck. The store is located towards the back of the center. The best way to get there is to turn right off Hwy 12 onto Christopher Lane, you'll see Gray’s Department store to the north and Twiddy's rental office to the south, follow the road to the 'back' parking lot located on the right (south side) of Christopher Lane. Once you pull into the parking lot, you'll see signs for Island Bookstore between the 'Bangkok' Restaurant and the wine store 'Vine & Board'.
Island Bookstore Corolla
In the late-1990’s, the previous owner Bill built a new Island Bookstore in Corolla on the former property of the local general store. The two-story building, intended to honor the design of the original historic general store, is located in the Historic Corolla Village. It sits just North of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and is next to the Historic Corolla Chapel and Corolla Wild Horse Fund.
Can’t find it? While heading North on HWY 12, take a left on Schoolhouse Lane, you’ll see Twiddy Realty on the corner to the north, follow the road to the end and then take a right, you will see the store on the left after you pass kind cup on the right.

Our second store, Island Bookstore-Corolla remains open year-round. With two floors of books to explore, you’ll find your time flies by when you come to visit us here.
Island Bookstore Kitty Hawk
The most recent addition to the Island Bookstore chain is located on the bypass in Kitty Hawk. Even though it is the smallest of our three stores, the selection is just as varied and deep as Duck and Corolla, while still catering to the local clientele. Find us in the shopping center covered in cedar shingle siding next to 'The Pony and The Boat' Restaurant and 'The (Boxing) Gym', across the street from The Dune Shops at Milepost 4.5.
